The way we think about cities is undergoing a quiet revolution. The pandemic accelerated a rethinking of proximity, convenience, and community that was already underway — and the lessons are reshaping how we plan neighborhoods.
The 'fifteen-minute city' concept, where daily needs are reachable on foot or by bike, is moving from theory into practice. Mixed-use districts that blend homes, workplaces, shops, and green space reduce car dependency and create the kind of vibrant, around-the-clock life that single-use zoning never could.
For our design work, this means putting people first: generous public realm, fine-grained streets, and flexibility that lets neighborhoods evolve over time. The buildings we design today must serve generations we will never meet.
