Designing for Natural Light: A Practical Guide

Light is the single most transformative element in any space, yet it is the one most frequently treated as an afterthought. Get it right and even a modest room feels generous; get it wrong and the most expensive finishes fall flat.

Our approach begins with orientation. We study the sun path across the seasons before a single wall is drawn, positioning living spaces to capture morning or evening light according to how the family lives. Deep reveals, light shelves, and carefully placed clerestory windows then shape that light into something soft and usable.

Just as important is controlling glare and heat. External shading, considered glazing, and thermal mass let us welcome daylight without the cooling penalty. The result is a home that feels naturally comfortable in every season.
